SAP SPEAKS AT TEDx LETHBRIDGE!

WINTER IS UPON US!

Well, the growing season has now come to a close. We discovered that our greenhouse doesn’t like 30 below temperatures overnight. Without supplemental heat, we were having trouble preventing our peppers and tomatoes from freezing.

So, we’ve harvested! But, we are very happy to annouce that our greenhouse was fully functional until November 17th!

We are planning at least one Intro Course for the winter and are working on our 2012 Course/Workshop Schedule. Stay tuned for more updates!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

PERMABLITZ

Our first PERMABLITZ was held on August 21st, 2011. Our hosts were Rachel and Latif Crowder.

A Permablitz is a workshop-style day which allows individuals to get some hands-on experience, try out some of the permaculture concepts, learn by doing, get ideas for their own homes, meet like-minded people, reduce food miles and water use and beautify underused spaces.

During this Permablitz, we put in a swale system (as a food forest), rain water harvesting and wicking beds of various sizes. It was a great day and we were even done before 5:00pm. Rachel made us a great lunch of sandwiches, quiche and guspatcho!  A huge THANK-YOU to everyone who came out to participate in the Blitz and the Crowder’s for allowing us to transcend on thier backyard!

OCTOBER INTRODUCTION TO PERMACULTURE COURSE

We have selected the next date for an Introduction to Permaculture Course. It will be held October 22 and 23,  2011.

If you are interested in permaculture, but not sure where to start, this 12-hour course will offer information and hands-on experience and cover the basics of permaculture design.

GREENHOUSE CONSTRUCTION

Our greenhouse is finally complete! After a few weeks of hard work, we hammered the final nail into our Passive Solar greenhouse. We are now growing peppers (of many colours) and tomatoes in there.
